Discovery Hotel and Convention Ancol

Staycation is the answer to the short-period holiday time. Well at least for us. A sudden invitation to stay overnight at Ancol Dreamland brought us to the doorstep of Discovery Hotel and Convention which is located right next door to Dunia Fantasi.

Upon online booking and phone confirmation, we're set to go for a weekend stay with office colleagues. When you book a room at Discovery Hotel and Convention Ancol, they will send you a free entrance pass for two adults and a car to enter Ancol Dreamland for free. But because I came with a colleague, Andrew is extra charge at the gate.

The room is spacious, large enough for young kids to wander around. A working table at the corner makes it more business-like than family fun. Bed is comfortably, the type you'd wanna go under the blanket right away. It's a little squeaky, I found out because Dudu moves around in his sleep, but doesn't really disturb his sleep. It has Dufan view although the theme park itself is rather hidden by the trees.

The best is yet to come. Going downstairs are all the treasure for kids: swimming pool, outdoor playground and the (best in town) Kids Club.

Discovery Kids Club which opens from 8 AM to 8 PM has different toys and games for different ages. From the simple educative toys for the babies and toddlers, the board games for everyone in the family, the fussball table for the kids (no adult allowed on this)... and the indoor wall climbing spot. TV set and computer games are also available but Andrew wasn’t interested in them at all and prefer the monopoly he found on the shelf. There is also a small tent for indoor camping. The person in charge for this area is really friendly and doesn’t mind playing with the kids. Andrew just simple doesn’t wanna leave.

Pool is nice and outdoor playground is relatively safe. If you stay here, you actually don’t have to go out and around Ancol.

The only drawback (yes, there is one), is that kids older than 5 have to pay for breakfast. It was a bit disappointing for me because free breakfast for kids under 12 staying with adults are the first thing I checked upon choosing and booking the hotel. It was only around Rp.100.000 if he joined two adults. But it was a turn off just because I had confirmed about breakfast upon phone confirmation... and for a hotel that cost this much per-room, I was honestly surprised to find a paid breakfast for kids.Oh well, I guess it's fair policy these days.

Overall, it was unforgettable. We’re happy to be here. Aside from being close to Dufan and the piers, this hotel is close to the bus station, both to the city and the Wara Wiri (Ancol Dreamland shuttle bus) that will take you around Ancol. If you come by car, parking are plenty. However, there’s no motorcycle parking. So, in the end, despite all things, we would still consider this hotel a fun place for family.
